If you’re flying through a UK airport the chances are you’ll be able to pick up one of these for the all-in sum of £127.65 at Dixons Travel – although it’s advisable that you reserve one (at www.dixonstaxfree.co.uk), to avoid disappointment as many stores only carry a few of each item. I do suppose though if you’re going to go down this route, you might as well investigate the other prices.
The price compares favourably with places such as Argos (£159.99) but how about the places where the price guarantee is offered? At time of writing, the prices are:
Amazon: £139.99 – arguably this is a little better value as it comes with a free game and accessory pack, and any other game for £10. Whilst this makes it better value, it’s ineligible for the comparison. But if you’re going to purchase a DSi at the airport, would you really not purchase anything to play on it, that would be a little pointless although there is 1 built in game.
Comet: £159.99 – same as the high street price.
John Lewis: £137.85 – surprisingly a good price considering that John Lewis also offer a 1-year guarantee on this.
Winner: Although we like the guarantee from John Lewis, given the low price point of the product and the low chance of the product breaking, we’d prefer the Amazon offering as it’s better value. The Dixon Travel price is great if you’re intending to use the DS with something like an R4 card and need no other software.
