In today’s edition of price check we’ll be looking at the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch edition; crucially this is the 2012 Edition which includes the all-fabled Retina Display. The best kind of display bar none in the mobile phone world, the advances made have meant that on the laptop, images will appear sharper than ever before, allowing users to experience things in even higher definition. This product is highly awaited and even more keenly priced, and we’re here to help you find the difference in price between the airport and the street. Airport retailer Dixons Travel guarantee their prices against Amazon, John Lewis and Comet for a great shopping offering.

MacBook Pro 15 Inch Retina Display Price Comparison:

There are many versions of the MacBook now, so if you’re buying as a gift, please be sure which models you are comparing the price against. This is the base model of the MacBook pro with Retina Display which comes with 256GB storage and a quad-core 2.3Ghz i7 processor. The airport price is £1713.00. How does this compare to the rest?

Amazon: £1789.99 (plus £6.13 postage, third party seller). Amazon themselves are traditionally short-stocked of these items and often don’t retail them themselves.
John Lewis:  £1799 including 2-year guarantee.
Comet: £1799 including postage.

Verdict: There is a saving on this model, but perhaps not as big as we hoped, with some Apple laptops attracting discounts of 10%, that falls pretty short here. Still, a saving is a saving – even though many may be tempted by the extended guarantee offered by John Lewis. If buying at the airport do remember that this item is extremely short-stocked so it’s best to ring and reserve in advance, and also duty-free purchases will have to be inside your hand luggage allowance. At 3KG for the whole package, that may take some doing. At the larger airports your shopping can be reserved for you to pick up on the inbound leg.
